Network Agitprop...

Mr.Atos

This is not funny. Its not cute. And its not just entertainment. Recent remarks made by characters of the popular NBC television show, "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" made the overt comparison of Republican Senator Tom Delay to a homicidal White Supremist. B&C reported yesterday (HT: Freeper Pikamax):
According to a transcript exerpt supplied B&C by DeLay's office, the show's finale features a white supremacist who kills a judge's family, and the killing of an appellate judge. As the detectives hunt for the judge killer, one says: "Maybe we should put out an APB for somebody in a Tom DeLay T-shirt."
The office of Tom DeLay, sent a letter of concern to NBC Universal Television Group President Jeffrey Zucker Thursday citing "a failure of stewardship of our public airwaves," and a "brazen lack of judgment" on the part of the Network. The B&C article goes on...
Saying he assumed it was a response to his comments about Congress closely monitoring federal judges, an obviously upset DeLay wrote Zucker: "To equate legitimate constitutional inquiry into the role of our courts with a threat of violence against our judges is to equate the First Amendment with terrorism."

NBC responded to the statement: "This episode is in keeping with the spirit and standards of the Law & Order brand.
NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has since responded: "The script line involved an exasperated detective, bedeviled by a lack of clues, making a sarcastic comment about the futility of looking for a suspect when no specific description existed. This isolated piece of gritty cop talk was neither a political comment, nor an accusation."

Producer Dick Wolf, creator of the "Law & Order" franchise, took a swipe at DeLay in his own statement on Thursday, saying, "I ... congratulate Congressman DeLay for switching the spotlight from his own problems to an episode of a TV show."

The NBC programming was indeed both an accusation and a political comment, Mr Reilly. And the implication inherent to the subsequent remarks of the show's producer confirms that. But, what is worse -insidious in fact - is what such imbedded messages infer about the nature of contemporary Network broadcasting; especially that of NBC programming. Arguably the most popular form of information and entertainment media, television has become a vehicle for the dissemination of political propaganda of the worst variety. Like the procedure from which it orginally assumed its name, agitprop was employed by the Communist Party of the Soviet State to act on the mind, while agitation acted on emotions, thus giving rise to the term "agitation propaganda". The intent was to subvert the independent thought of its citizens.

The similar intent with shows like "Law and Order," is to subvert the independent thought of NBC viewers. The term 'agitprop' refers to any form of mass media, such as a television program or film, that tries to influence opinion for political, commercial or other ends, especially if it aims to convince people through agitating their minds with highly emotional language of problems in present-day society or politics. (Reference Wikipedia)

What was this episode if not a deliberate attempt to manifest a political opinion? ... based on a complete fabrication of the facts! It is a reality that should chill everyone in this nation down to their Orwellian recollections.

And NBC flips it off like a trivial irrelevancy. You might want to let them know that we don't.

What is Being Left... (Chapter II)

Mr.Atos

Perhaps like James Taranto's Best of the Web over at Opinion Journal, this segment needs to be a weekly installment for MySandmen to publish. There is always a wealth of new information on the deterioration of the political Left from its foundations of liberty, civility, and progress... to a reeking cesspool of concentrated hate, depravity, and violence.

Just look at this,
NYC Indymedia and Chicago Indymedia (HT: Michelle Malkin)

This July 4th is Flag Burning Day!
Every summer good Americans don their best red white and blue, and gorge themselves on beer and hotdogs to celebrate our independence from England, but from its very beginnings this country has been built on illegitimacies.

Might this be an example of a n t i - a m e r i c a n i s m? ... given the fundamental concept expressed in the premise is that "from its very beginnings this country has been built on illegitimacies..." Hmm?

Get your video cameras out, charged, and ready for July 4th, because the antics sponsored on that day by Indymedia will be a video extravaganza to be certain; and an event that all American's should see over and over again. The World Left and radical Islamic fascism seem to have more in common with each other than either share with mainstream America. And both are making it known in their own distinct - and increasingly similar - ways.

As noted in the
inaugueral post on this subject, the great egress continues. In his recent article in the San Fransisco Times, 'Leaving the left', Keith Thompson describes his own disillusion with the Left and why he chose to abandon the cess pool. (Excerpt Below)

"This past January, my liberalism was in full throttle when I bid the cultural left goodbye to escape a new version of that oppressiveness. I departed with new clarity about the brilliance of liberal democracy and the value system it entails; the quest for freedom as an intrinsically human affair; and the dangers of demands for conformity and adherence to any point of view through silence, fear, or coercion.

"True, it took a while to see what was right before my eyes. A certain misplaced loyalty kept me from grasping that a view of individuals as morally capable of and responsible for making the principle decisions that shape their lives is decisively at odds with the contemporary left's entrance-level view of people as passive and helpless victims of powerful external forces, hence political wards who require the continuous shepherding of caretaker elites.

"Leftists who no longer speak of the duties of citizens, but only of the rights of clients, cannot be expected to grasp the importance (not least to our survival) of fostering in the Middle East the crucial developmental advances that gave rise to our own capacity for pluralism, self-reflection, and equality. A left averse to making common cause with competent, self- determining individuals -- people who guide their lives on the basis of received values, everyday moral understandings, traditional wisdom, and plain common sense -- is a faction that deserves the marginalization it has pursued with such tenacity for so many years.

"All of which is why I have come to believe, and gladly join with others who have discovered for themselves, that the single most important thing a genuinely liberal person can do now is walk away from the house the left has built. The renewal of any tradition that deserves the name "progressive" becomes more likely with each step in a better direction."

Be sure to read the entire piece.

What is being Left is determined to undermine the mission of the United States in its global struggle with a brutal and aggressive fascist malevolence. What is being Left desires the Middle East to collapse into Civil War than for George Bush to continue to succeed seeding liberty. What is being Left would have our self-defense abandoned by the next generation of citizen-patriots. What is being Left condemns the greatest source of virtue this planet has ever know as the worst aggressor that humanity has ever seen.

What is being Left prefers the mayhem of chaos over the responsibilities of liberty! And it's concentration continues.

The New Imperial Senate...

Mr.Atos

This morning, I have just one question... Where is the vote for cloture and confirmation of Justice Priscilla Owen? That vote was promised by Senate Majority leadership today. It should have taken place first thing this morning, regardless of controversy surrounding any 'deals.'

Are we awaiting yet another disaster, Mr. Frist? Or do you intend to let this fine professional and American be publicly humiliated for another week or two. She is better than that... and quite frankly better than you.

We have sat by for four months as Frist and his Senate apologists have asked us to wait, one more week, two more weeks, three more weeks, next week, tomorrow. And last night we got shafted. Senate Republicans gave Democrats four months to abuse some of the finest statesman this nation has produced, sitting by and allowing them to be semantically raped daily by the insane Left in media, the special interest thugs, and by Democrat Senators on the floor. Byrd Demonstrated on multiple occasions that he no longer needed a white sheet and hood to pontificate his loathsome bigotry. Democrats gave the grand wizard a platform, and Republicans gave him the time. Owens, chained to a hijacked shaft of glorified procedure, was allowed to be publicly flogged along with nearly every other Presidential nominee to come before this ridiculous body of political aristocracy; including Condoleeza Rice, and John Bolton.

What success did that time buy him, them or us?

Did Republicans lose by this 'deal?' The details are still being evaluated. Hugh Hewitt finds some silver lining to both the dark and gray clouds, but finds little to cheer about. Captain Ed breaks it down to find nothing accomplished by an argument sacrificed. Mitch Berg is just incensed, and for good reason. John Hinderaker will be on MSNBC Live at 12:45 central time, talking about the filibuster compromise (Powerline). There is much discussion over at The Corner.

You bet we lost last night! Regardless of the details of this particular deal, good men and woman have been effectively abandoned. Despite potential confirmation, in payment for tolerating unconscionable and humiliating abuse, fine citizens like Priscilla Owen got to hear the malevolent Mr. Byrd hiss the self-serving fallacious soundbite, "We have kept the Republic..." And Republicans are now treating that reprehensible little fiend like a hero. What good man or woman will ever allow themselves to be dragged through the feces of a Senate confirmation process after watching this atrocity unfold. What good Executive would ask them to do it?

And that afterall, was the goal of the vile little men and woman of the Democrat party who surrendered all semblance of civility to dedicate four months (and four years) to impugning the characters and assisinating the personal and professional reputations of good citizens of the United States of America. And what was the goal of the reprehensible little cowards who abandoned the Conservative base (and the elected President) to accommodate Democrats? Power! Media popularity.

John McCain, Chuck Hagel, Lincoln Chafee, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Mike DeWine, Lindsey Graham

And what don't we yet know about this agreement?

For all the recent straw arguments about majority power, minority rights, and checks and balance, what Fourteen Senators gained for themselves last night was the usurpation of concentrated Senate authority that effectively establishes a kleptocratic legislative star chamber with despotic control over every other Branch of American government.

Thank you Mr. Frist for providing opportunity for a handful of RINO's and a publicly rejected party of radical Senators to fortify Vicksburg!

UPDATE: 05.24.05:10:32

Senate Votes to End Filibuster on Judge ... The vote was 81-18 with opponents of the Texas Supreme Court justice falling well short of the 60 needed to continue their filibuster. A vote to confirm Owen could come as early as Tuesday.

Tuesday! Just what is wrong with Wednesday?! Another week, Mr. Frist?

Michelle depicts a Republican Buckle! If only the leadership knew how to employ such things to punish insolent stupidty.

Major Mike asks, Where is Spartacus? ... even slaves need strong leadership to escape the chains of their own pathetic demise.

Doug T. calls it a sucker punch. Maybe so, but it was telegraphed like hurricane warning.

OkieBoy says the seven got conned! I'm not sure they bought the bridge as much as jumped off it. Maybe they did both. Good links. I'm not sure if we're seeing a swarm or a riot.

The Anchoress asks an obvious question...why trust Democrat Senators? Indeed! Never trust scoundrels and devils.

Is there a bright side?... The Stones Cry Out.

The American Thumb...

Mr.Atos

Well, dangit! Now that Hugh mentioned part of my email on the air, I'll have to post what I told him concerning Ms. Nooyi's (President of PepsiCo) comments.

America is the thumb.

The opposable thumb is the indicator of supreme intelligence in the animal kingdom. It indicates tool users.

The middle finger is effectively useless to the functions of the hand. You don’t use it to leaf through books, its not for your ring, and you don’t pull a trigger with it. Hell, kids don’t even use it to pick their nose.

The index finger is the primary finger that is fundamental to most digital functions, anchoring every function the hand performs. But, the hand does not work without the thumb and there is only one (of each orientation).

In that regard, American is humanity's thumb. England could perhaps be considered to be it's index finger. If anything, France is most certainly the middle one.

Thumbs UP to Coke!

Thumbs DOWN to Pepsi! (Sorry Mrs. Atos!)

And Ms. Nooyi can flip herself toward France as a replacement market for the product she represents.

If you don't know what this is about, you can find out here...

In the course of a recent speech at Columbia Business School Commencement, Indra Nooyi said this:

...This analogy of the five fingers as the five major continents leaves the long, middle finger for North America, and, in particular, The United States. As the longest of the fingers, it really stands out. The middle finger anchors every function that the hand performs and is the key to all of the fingers working together efficiently and effectively. This is a really good thing, and has given the U.S. a leg-up in global business since the end of World War I.

However, if used inappropriately – just like the U.S. itself - the middle finger can convey a negative message and get us in trouble. You know what I’m talking about. In fact, I suspect you’re hoping that I’ll demonstrate what I mean. And trust me, I’m not looking for volunteers to model.

Discretion being the better part of valor...I think I’ll pass.

What is most crucial to my analogy of the five fingers as the five major continents, is that each of us in the U.S. – the long middle finger – must be careful that when we extend our arm in either a business or political sense, we take pains to assure we are giving a hand...not the finger.

Sometimes this is very difficult. Because the U.S. – the middle finger – sticks out so much, we can send the wrong message unintentionally.

Unfortunately, I think this is how the rest of the world looks at the U.S. right now. Not as part of the hand – giving strength and purpose to the rest of the fingers – but, instead, scratching our nose and sending a far different signal.

Don't blame Conservative America or any Rightwing conspiracy for the consequences of your action, Ms. Nooyi. You simply fingered yourself.

Note: I am currently on sabatical from blogging for the time being. I have another round of exams looming along with intense professional obligations that have rendered me with very limited time for my family. I am balancing my time accordingly at the moment and in favor of more precious obligations. That being said, I hope to be back on this soap box as soon as I can.

Please take the opportunity to review the archives. I think that much of what Dueler and I have said here is pertinent anytime.

I'll be back soon. Hugh has a way of poking me out of my cave to fire a few shots in the Left direction from time to time.

What Is Being Left?...

Mr. Atos

Take a political movement that was developed via modern sensibilities and enlightened ideological exploration, that flourished during a cultural orgy of unbounded depravity and ultimately - due to a natural shifting of cultural sensibilities - lost touch with mainstream ideas and was in the process of being discarded. What would happen to that movement? Pardon the apparent hyberbole for a moment and recall what happens to sewerage. Once the water is filtered from the solid waste, that sludge is deposited in ponds where it evaporates to a superconcentrated paste of septic waste.

America is well into the turning of the Cultural Revolution resulting in a maturation of sensibilities, and a renewed appreciation of ethics, morals, values, and integrity. As more and more 'good' citizens evaporate from Liberalism and the Democrat party, all that will be left is the filth... that which is untreatable, not compatible, will go nowhere else..

... and stinks unbearably of rot and decomposition.

What is being Left is a toxic poison that is attempting to feed itself to humanity... by force.

I give you, modern Liberalism:

Michael Medved encourages listeners to read this column by a Washington anti-war activist who wants the terrorists to win in Iraq.

The greatest moral quandary of our day is whether we, as Americans, support the Iraqi insurgency. It’s an issue that has caused anti-war Leftists the same pangs of conscience that many felt 30 years ago in their opposition to the Vietnam War. The specter of disloyalty weighs heavily on all of us, even those who’ve never been inclined to wave flags or champion the notion of American “Exceptionalism”.

For myself, I can say without hesitation that I support the "insurgency", and would do so even if my only 21 year old son was serving in Iraq. There’s simply no other morally acceptable option...

... We should be clear about our feelings about the war and the occupation. The disparate Iraqi resistance is the legitimate manifestation of a national liberation movement. Its success is imperative to the principles of national sovereignty and self-determination; ideals that are revered in the Declaration of Independence. The toppling of foreign regimes and the destruction of entire civilizations cannot be justified in terms of “democracy” or any other cynically conjured-up ideal. The peace and security of the world’s people depends on the compliance of states with the clearly articulated standards of international law and the UN Charter. Both were deliberately violated by the invasion of Iraq. Crushing the insurgency will not absolve that illicit action; it will only increase the magnitude of the crime.

Therefore we look for an American defeat in Iraq. Such a defeat would serve as a powerful deterrent to future unprovoked conflicts and would deliver a serious blow to the belief that aggression is a viable expression of foreign policy.

In case you doubt the foundation of these sensibilities in modern mainstream Liberalism, have a look at the ties this author, Mike Whitney, has to the Democrat Party in Washington State.

Then there's this column by a Brown University student who supports terrorists in Iraq. (HT. Medved)

On a good day, the US corporate media would have its audience believe that a kinder, gentler imperialism is the only way forward for Iraq. This is, of course, not the case. Nor does it seem plausible, after two long years of occupation, that any kind of imperialism will be tolerated by the Iraqi people, for reasons I will enumerate below. Simultaneously, predictions that a formal draft will likely supplement the current poverty draft in the United States have been made by the likes of Seymour Hersh and North Carolina National Guard Specialist Patrick Resta. While the recent claim that a draft should be expected within 75 days is, at best, a misunderstanding of the Selective Service Administration (a vestige of the Cold War, the SSA was created to intimidate the Soviets with the possibility of short-notice US conscription), a future draft is not by any means out of the question. With its roots in the mid-1990s, the national crisis in military recruiting has been marked by a recent plummet undoubtedly related to the multiform horrors of the war in Iraq-not least the increasing threats to under-armed and under-manned US troops which haveresulted in the increased use of carpet-bombing (and civilian-killing) which has typically led to increased resistance, continuing the vicious spiral.

Michael posts a link to the President of the University, in case you would like to let her know what you think.

Note the particular concern for the U.S. rightwing-corporate-propaganda-media. (Is that the same media Dan Rather, Ronald Brownstein, and Maureen Dowd, work for?) Well, Sound Politics highlights the Left's solution for that problem. (Edited 05.03.05:20:40)

From Seattle Indy Media, an announcement of nationwide plans to sabotage newspaper machines on May 9.

"Freeze the Media Day" is when people all around the country drop superglue and toothpicks into the money slots of
slimy corperate media newspaper dispensers. This is a statement to figures who like to put themselves in places of power that the power still remains with the people and that we can still tear down any institutions we feel the need to because they were built over the labor on our backs. This is also a message to them that we won't tolerate the bullshit spins they put out to keep us in a constants state of fear and obediance. This is a nationwide event, and we're looking for solidarity everywhere to help spread this empowering message.

Victor Davis Hanson postulates that, at least abroad, the fashionable meme of Anti-Americanism is dissolving into reality like a Saturday morning hangover (my description not his). Facing a withdrawal of American influence, defense, and capital, associate nations are beginning again to acknowledge the virtue of the United States. Yet, while this may be the trend of global diplomacy, sadly the stench of decay from an evaporating cultural menace continues to concetrate its fetid malevolence at home. (Edited 05.04.05:08:29)

What is being Left, progressively demonstrates itself to be incompatible with life... much like those barbarous butchers it now openly supports. Advocating in favor of it's victory, and actively endorsing it's means, could adoption of the butcher's methods be so far away?

UPDATE: 05.04.05:06:50
The carnage continues, courtesy of the friends of the Left; those nationalistic, liberating 'freedom' fighters of Iraq who today butchered another 50 of their own people.

IRBIL, Iraq - An Iraqi carrying hidden explosives set them off outside a police recruitment center Wednesday where people were applying for jobs, police said. The U.S. military said at least 50 Iraqis...

"This is a horrible crime and a massacre," Massoum said in an interview outside the National Assembly. "Cooperation between the people and the security forces is necessary to fight terrorists like al-Zarqawi and Ansar al-Islam, who are the enemies of Iraq."

Al Quaeda may be friends of the American Left and Western Marxists, but they are certainly no liberators for Iraq... in the eyes of the Iraqi's or anyone else with sense.
